Study design

The researchers combined exercise-associated human observations with cell injury assays, protein-interaction studies, TRIM72-deficient mice and an ischaemia-reperfusion model.

What the researchers reported

The paper reported interactions between MOTS-c and TRIM72, enhanced trafficking of TRIM72 toward injured membrane, and membrane-related effects that were reduced when TRIM72 was absent. Additional interaction with a membrane phospholipid was reported.

What this result does not establish

The human component was correlational and the causal tests were preclinical. These findings do not establish a membrane-repair therapy or human clinical effect.
