Study design

The study tracked MOTS-c localisation under glucose restriction and oxidative stress, analysed gene-expression changes and investigated dependence on AMPK and import-related mechanisms in cellular and mouse experiments.

What the researchers reported

MOTS-c was reported to translocate to the nucleus in response to stress and bind chromatin in association with stress-response transcription factors, with effects on adaptive gene expression and cellular survival.

What this result does not establish

Mechanistic observations in experimental systems do not define human physiological exposure or prove that externally supplied MOTS-c produces a clinical benefit.
