Study design

Researchers used cellular metabolic assays and mouse experiments, including diet-related and age-related metabolic models, to examine glucose handling, insulin sensitivity, body-weight-related measures and AMPK-linked pathways.

What the researchers reported

The study reported that MOTS-c influenced folate and purine metabolism, activated AMPK-related signalling and improved several metabolic measurements in the tested mouse models.

What this result does not establish

The findings were preclinical. Improvements in mouse metabolic measurements do not establish treatment of obesity, diabetes or insulin resistance in humans.
