Study design

Researchers induced colitis-associated cancer with AOM/DSS, compared tumour and inflammatory measurements across mouse genotypes, examined human biopsy expression, and administered KPV to mice with or without PepT1.

What the researchers reported

PepT1 overexpression was associated with greater tumour burden and inflammation, while deletion showed the opposite pattern. KPV was associated with reduced tumorigenesis in wild-type but not PepT1-deficient mice.

What this result does not establish

The intervention evidence came from a chemically induced mouse model. Human biopsy expression was observational and does not establish that KPV prevents or treats colorectal cancer in people.
