Study design
Researchers used HaCaT cells, normal human keratinocytes and receptor-transfected cells to measure cyclic AMP and intracellular calcium responses across peptide concentrations.
What the researchers reported
The investigators did not detect cyclic-AMP elevation in the keratinocyte systems but observed rapid calcium responses under specified experimental conditions. Receptor-transfected cells also showed calcium responses.
What this result does not establish
Cultured-cell signalling does not demonstrate a tissue-level or clinical outcome. Responses depended on the cell system and experimental conditions.
