Study design

The study measured leukocyte accumulation after crystal- or interleukin-1-beta-induced inflammation, tested receptor antagonism and receptor-deficient mice, and evaluated macrophage cytokine and cyclic-AMP responses in vitro.

What the researchers reported

KPV reduced polymorphonuclear-leukocyte accumulation in the mouse models. Its pattern differed from selected melanocortin agonists, and the authors concluded that the observed effect was unlikely to depend on conventional melanocortin-receptor signalling.

What this result does not establish

These experiments addressed acute inflammatory models in mice and isolated cells. They do not establish treatment of inflammatory disease in humans.
