Kisspeptin and Emotional Brain Processing in Healthy Men

A neuroimaging study compared kisspeptin with vehicle in 29 healthy heterosexual young men viewing sexual, couple-bonding and emotional stimuli.

Researchers combined functional MRI with hormonal and psychometric measurements to assess limbic responses and associations with reward, drive, mood and aversion scores.

What the researchers reported

Kisspeptin administration was associated with altered limbic activation during selected sexual and couple-bonding stimuli. Some activation changes correlated with psychometric measurements, and negative mood was reduced in the reported analysis.

What this result does not establish

Functional-imaging signals and short-term psychometric associations do not establish treatment of a behavioural or reproductive disorder. The sample was small and demographically narrow.
