Study design

Human osteoblast and osteoclast systems were exposed to kisspeptin in vitro. In the clinical component, participants received kisspeptin and placebo on separate visits, with bone markers measured during 90 minutes.

What the researchers reported

In vitro, the study reported increased osteoblast differentiation measures and reduced osteoclast resorptive activity. In participants, osteocalcin markers increased acutely while the measured resorption markers did not.

What this result does not establish

Short-term biomarker changes are not evidence of improved bone density or fewer fractures. The clinical study involved healthy young men and only acute exposure.
